In Loving Memory
Jack Mourice Thompson
8/19/1925 -1/18/2010

Jack, 84, a gentle, quiet, yet determined soul passed away early on Monday, January 18 in his Anderson, CA. home after a long battle with advanced COPD, which was further complicated by developing lung cancer. Both his sons were with him into the night.

Jack (known as Maurice -pronounced "Morris" by his Thompson family) was born on August 19, 1925 in Visalia, California to Violet Potter and Jack Morris (later remarried to Dorothy). His parents, his sister, Maxine, and brother, Emmett, have all preceded him in death. Jack was a father, a friend, a military war veteran, and a long term employee of PG&E. Jack also delighted in the use of his skill as an electrician as he helped many people with wiring projects from car projects to the wiring or re-wiring of entire buildings. He especially enjoyed making and repairing clocks, a pass time he enjoyed until very recently.

At the age of 17, Jack left Visalia to join the US Navy (1942-46) in WWII and returned to serve the US Coast Guard (1950-53) during the Korea Conflict. On one of the port calls to Humboldt Bay, he met and then subsequently married Beverly May (Alto) Thompson, who became the mother of their three children and who passed in June, 2006. He remained in Eureka where in addition to many hunting, fishing, and mining ventures, he completed his 28 year career as a PG&E natural gas department light crew foreman in 1982. Jack then moved to Anderson, CA for an equally long retirement, which included more fishing and traveling.

He leaves behind his children: Leonard (Peggy) of Redding, Sandra Lewis (Ben) of Eureka, and Bruce of Santa Rosa. He was also the proud grandfather of: Robert (Summer), Dustin, and Andrew of the Redding area, Karri of Red Bluff, Matthew (Sara) of Fortuna, and Jeffrey (Roxana) of Munich, Germany. He is also survived by his great granddaughters: Elle and Samantha of Redding, and Nea of Munich, Germany, Jack's siblings: Gene (Pam) of Sonora, Betty Norman of Eureka, Charles and Gary Stricklin of Visalia also survive him along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Jack was also preceded in death by many friends, including "Blackie" Staupher of San Jose, with whom he enjoyed many hunting and fishing trips.

The family wants to thank Merley's Guest Home in Anderson and Memorial Hospice in Redding for remarkable, individualized care received during these final years and months. No formal services are planned by Jack's request.

If you would like to honor Jack, remember him at 1:15 pm each day, which is the time he would be out and about in Anderson.

Jack requested cremation and his ashes will be dispersed by the family in accordance with his wishes at a later date.

The family also requests that interested parties make donations to the American Lung Association of California at 424 Pendleton Way, Oakland, CA 94621 or online at www.californialung.org. Allen & Dahl Funeral Chapel of Redding is officiating.
